Take a look at our past events
We run as many different events as possible so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. We keep our events as low in numbers as possible to ensure the sessions are calm and relaxed to help prevent our children from becoming overwhelmed. All sessions are non-judgemental and families can feel free to be themselves without worrying what others may think.
Here is where you will find a selection of what we have been up to.
Pink Gym
The Pink Gym is one of our most popular sessions and a favourite of many. It is the home of South Durham Gymnastics and is based in Spennymoor Leisure Centre. We privately hire the gym for our families to enable children to be able to let off some steam, self-regulate, play and practice their gymnastics skills in a safe, calm and relaxed environment.
Big Bang Science
Big Science and Mini Science sessions are perfect to learn a little bit about science in a fun and exciting way. Watch giant explosions and mix chemicals to find out why they go whizz, pop and bang!
We run two types of science class depending on the needs and abilities of the child. Big Science is a more structured environment with demonstrations and experimentation. Mini Science is a free-flow play session designed to allow children to experiment in a semi-structured environment.
Climbing @ Sunderland Wall
We regularly partner up with Wildtrack Wilderness who run private sessions for us at Sunderland Climbing Wall. The instructors at Wildtrack Wilderness have a huge wealth of experience in what they do and have worked with children with SEND for many years making them the perfect people to deliver this activity on our behalf.
Wildtrack Wilderness
As well as running our climbing sessions, Wildtrack Wilderness deliver one of our forest school sessions for us. These sessions are held in the forest on the Lumley Estate. The children learn about nature, practice cookery and bushcraft skills as well as other softer skills such as team work, communication and creative thinking. The sessions are run by Barry, Dave and John who have a fantastic knowledge of their craft which in turn develops the children's curiosity and wonder of the natural world.
Williby Rocs
We also run forest school sessions at Williby Rocs in South Tyneside. Danielle who runs the private sessions is a natural at getting the children engaged in the activities which include bug hunts, water play, planting and of course a campfire to toast delicious marshmallows. The sessions often follow a theme but are child-led according to their interests and abilities.
Circus Skills
Roll up! Roll up! To the best circus skills class in town. Last summer we had a great time clowning around learning all the tricks of the circus trade. We juggled our balls, walked as tall as giants on stilts and sent plates whizzing round on sticks. It was so much fun!
Meet the Alpacas
We had an amazing time meeting the alpacas last summer. We learnt lots of fun facts about them. We got to stroke them, feed them and take them for a walk. Watch this space for more alpaca antics this summer!
Sensory Art and Messy Play
At The Sensory Place we love having a squish and a squeeze at our messy play and sensory art sessions. Children can come along to the relaxed sessions to get creative with slime, sand, paint and other sensory art materials as well as being able to enjoy crafting activities.
Sensory Santa's Grotto
Ho, ho, ho! Our Santa's Grotto was a wonderful sensory experience for families to enjoy. There were lots of Christmas themed sensory play activities, crafts and above all the chance to meet the big man himself in a quiet and relaxed environment. Santa and his elves made sure that all the children received a toy that was matched to their needs and interests and that they had the children's toy orders just right ready for Rudolph and the reindeer to deliver on Christmas Eve!
Bubbleologist
We had lots of good, clean bubbly fun when Jesse Ward - Bubbleologist came to visit us. We got to see a fantastic bubble show where there were lots and lots and lots of bubbles. Some were even bigger than us! We got to make our own bubbles too which was super fun but the highlight of the show was where we got to stand inside our very own bubble - amazing!
Nikki Noo Noos
Nikki Noo Noo is a firm favourite with our families. As well as forest and beach schools, she can also throw a fantastic party! We have had playdough parties, Hawaiian parties and even Harry Potter parties complete with sensory props and lots of fun and laughter.
